Fluent in TikTok Parenting is your go-to guide for navigating TikTok with intention and peace of mind. Whether you’re just getting started or already managing your child’s screen time, this post walks you through the essential steps, from turning on Restricted Mode to linking accounts through Family Pairing and setting daily limits.
Restricted Mode
On your (guardian) or Childs Device:
Open the TikTok App
Tap your Profile Icon (bottom right)
Tap the ☰ three lines (top right corner) to open settings and privacy.
Scroll down to content preferences
Tap Restricted mode
Tap Turn On RestrictedMode
Set a 4- digit passcode (you’ll use this to disable it later)
Link Accounts Using Family Pairing
On your (Guardian) Device:
Open TikTik then Go to YOUR Profile
Tap ☰ then Settings and Privacy then Family Pairing
Select Parent and tap continue
A QR code will appear
On your (Childs) Device:
Open TikT0k then Go to YOUR Profile
Tap ☰ then Settings and Privacy then Family Pairing
Select Teen and then tap continue
Scan the QR code from your phone to link accounts
You’re Now Connected!
Content Controls & Screen Time Limits
After linking accounts, on your guardian device
Go to settings and Privacy then FamilyPairing
Choose your childs account
You can now:
Set daily screen time limits (15,30, 60min, etc.)
Enable restricted mode remotely
Limit or block direct messages
Set content filtering keywords (i.e. violence, scary, etc.)
Daily Screen Time Limits (without Family Pairing)
On childs device (if not paired)
Go to settings and privacy then screen time
Tap daily screen time
Tap turn on
Set the time limit (i.e. 20min, 60min, etc.)
Create passcode to lock the changes.
